The word for today ladies and gentlemen is EMPATHY (The action of understanding, being aware of, being sensitive to, and vicariously experiencing the feelings, thoughts, and experience of another of either the past or present without having the feelings, thoughts, and experience fully communicated in an objectively explicit manner.)
The human race has its flaws as we try to destroy each other over religion, race, politics, materialism and social status. But what makes life worth living is when we choose to do good for one another because of religion, race, politics, materialism and social status. It is always a beautiful thing to see folks standing in opposition finding common ground to help others. We definitely need it now as America is on the brink of another Civil War.
I was in Starbucks this morning getting a quick cup of coffee when I noticed two mature men in their 60’s arguing in line over politics. One gentleman was a proud white conservative and adamantly began slamming former President Barack Obama. The other was an equally proud black liberal and defended President Obama while slamming current U.S. President Donald Trump.
“Obama ruined EVERYTHING in this country. He made it damn near impossible to be a white, heterosexual man because of his hidden gay agenda. He hates America!” the conservative yelled.
“Are you stupid?! Trump wants to put all blacks in chains and kick out all Mexicans. He’s racist as hell!” the liberal responded.
“F..k Obama!” The conservative shouted.
“F..k Trump!” The liberal shouted back.
The liberal then clutched his chest and fell to the ground in pain. The conservative quickly called for help and began praying. Several people (blacks & whites) attended the liberal as paramedics arrived within 10 minutes. The conservative held the liberals hand the entire time paramedics examined him. He was loaded in the ambulance and said one final word to the conservative...
“Thank you, sir.” The liberal said softly.
“You’re welcome sir and God bless you.” The conservative responded.
Regardless of what side of the isle we fall on; we are ALL still Americans. I hope this story brings you joy and inspires you to step out of your echo chamber of folks that agree with you and seek productive dialogue with folks that have a different opinion. Let’s break down barriers and find common ground for the sake of us all. IT'S COOL TO BE HUMAN TO OTHER PEOPLE. God bless you and God bless our great country!
